A series of pages on a website containing informational posts. They are designed to grab the attention of someone interested in that subject. Digital marketers recommend blog posts to increase traffic to a company’s website by providing information about that service or industry.
What is a Blog?
A blog (short for “weblog”) is a site usually containing regular entries of descriptions of events, opinions, or informational know-how, with possibly related graphics or video.
A blog allows individuals or businesses to share their thoughts, expertise, and knowledge on a specific topic or industry. Nowadays, there are blogs on everything from motherhood and fashion to business and technology.
How Blogs Help with SEO
Blogs are important to SEO because they are a great way to keep your website’s content fresh and up-to-date. Fresh and up-to-date content is more likely to be indexed by search engines and appear higher in search engine results pages (SERPs). In addition, blogging gives you a great opportunity to target long-tail keywords which are less competitive and more likely to result in conversions.
There are four main ways that blogs can help improve your website’s SEO:
1. Keyword-rich content:
When you’re writing a blog post, be sure to include relevant keywords throughout the content. This will help your blog posts appear in search engine results when people search for those keywords. Do your research beforehand to determine which keywords are most relevant to your topic and your target audience’s search queries.
2. Fresh content:
One of the criteria that search engines use to rank websites is how often the site’s content is updated. By regularly publishing new blog posts, you’re effectively telling search engines that your site is active and up-to-date – which will help your site rank higher in search results pages.
3. Inbound links:
Inbound links are links from other websites that link back to your website. Search engines see these inbound links as “votes” for your website – the more inbound links you have, the better! When you publish new blog posts, be sure to share them on social media and other websites (with a link back to your site, of course). You can also guest blog on other websites and include a link back to your own site in your author bio.
4. Social shares:
Whenever someone reads one of your blog posts and likes it enough to share it on social media or another website, that’s called a “social share.” Social shares are great for two reasons: firstly, they help increase the reach of your blog posts (which can lead to more traffic to your website); and secondly, they create more inbound links back to your website (which we already know helps with SEO).
To encourage social sharing of your blog posts, be sure to include sharing buttons on each post, write compelling headlines and meta descriptions, and use images sparingly but strategically when you create a blog.
